This learning experience is one that can involve the whole family! Learners get to choose an iconic moment in history to recreate in or around their home. If teachers share an editable presentation, families can access the resource, and add or duplicate slides to make their own. The experience allows families to investigate and learn about an iconic moment in history while using a camera to snap a photo of themselves recreating an iconic moment. Students would use the drawing features of Powerpoint or Google Slides to generate speech bubbles or captions to give clues about the iconic moment represented by their photo. Other families can use the comment feature to guess the iconic moments as they appear in the presentation. This experience involves choice, student voice, and involves the whole family. Mercer SchoolDescription:
Working out with things that students can find around their home. Students can use canned food to do an entire workout. First, have students gather at least 6 to 8 cans of food they most likely have readily available in their kitchen. They can then:
- Do bicep curls and triceps curls while holding a can in each hand.
- Do wall sits while balancing a can on each thigh.
- Hold a plank while stacking and then unstacking cans (2 cans or 3 cans in each stack).
- Do sit-ups while holding a can, or even do Russian twists while using a can while going side to side.
- Do a relay run with a sibling where you run from point A to point B, and then hand off the can to the next runner, etc. If no sibling is available, running is still possible by starting with several cans of food, and then running one can at a time from the starting location to a location farther away, then returning to the starting location to grab another can, etc., until no cans are left. These are just a few physical activities that can be done right at home with nothing other than canned food.
