Education programming is provided at 12 prisons and 10 regional jails throughout the state. Each program creates an Education and Career Plan (ECP) for the student to establish goals and a pathway for education during incarceration

Open Gate:

Adult Education (AE):

  • TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) assessment: monitor student progress and Federal Functioning Level attainment.

  • TASC Readiness Assessment (TRA)
  • Official TASC testing for High School Diploma Equivalency Completion

  • Ashland University, in cooperation with WVDE ODTP, offers eligible inmates an Associate’s degree program.

 Family Literacy Activities:

  • Read to Me: Inmates read books, record them to DVD, and mail them to family members.
