Employees are one of the WVDE’s most valuable—and valued—resources. Joining the Department staff offers individuals unique possibilities.
In an atmosphere of academic excellence and diversity, our employees assume responsibilities that can provide opportunities for professional achievement and growth. We are proud of our employees who seek to maintain the highest standards possible when performing their jobs.
When you become a WVDE staff member, you join a community of talented and dedicated people whose abilities, skills and actions provide essential support for the teaching and research activities for which the Department is nationally recognized.
At the WVDE, we aspire to provide a positive work environment that respects all individuals and encourages excellent work performance and high morale. We provide comprehensive benefits and policies that help employees achieve work-life balance and strive to offer programs and services that promote the Department’s commitment to affirmative action, equal employment opportunity, diversity and inclusion.
A well-planned approach to welcome new members of the WVDE staff can help how individuals acclimate more easily to the Department community and quickly become successful contributors.
The onboarding process often begins with information provided by the Office of Human Resources and/or the hiring office prior to the employee’s first day on the job. Then, typically on their first day, new employees attend the New Hire Orientation Program, a formal program presented by Human Resources that provides new employees with the opportunity to learn about the WVDE, its structure, mission and values.
Hiring Managers, too, play an important part in the onboarding process as they influence and affect the quality and effectiveness of a new staff member’s experience at the Department.
All employees, no matter their level or position, can benefit from the onboarding process to help them gain a better understanding of the Department and their position. A successful transition period is one of the keys to building commitment to the WVDE and engaging staff in the critical work of the Department.
