Public Schools, Educators and Staff Recognized During National Public Schools Week
A bus driver who served his country and now serves his county in special ways; students facing limitations who are exploring new experiences; and unique local programs are among the stories the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) and county school systems will showcase during National Public Schools Week (Feb. 23-27). The week recognizes the important contributions of public schools to our families, communities, state and the nation.
More than 90% of students in the state attend public schools, and these schools are meeting the growing needs of students in unique ways. From academics to the developmental, nutritional and socio-emotional needs of children, public school administrators, educators and personnel continue to care for 235,000 public school students in the Mountain State.
Throughout Public Schools Week, the WVDE will work closely with counties to share stories about education programs and activities in our schools and the caring adults who support them.
Each day promises to shine a deserving light on public schools that are the bedrock of many regions in our state. View the message from State Superintendent of Schools Michele L. Blatt, and stay tuned to school, county and state education websites and social media channels for highlights throughout the week.
