The Short-Term Substitute Permit Renewal (Form 2SR) allows individuals to renew their short-term substitute permit to teach in any classroom, at any grade level, for up to 30 days. This permit is valid for three (3) years.
You must meet the following qualifications prior to applying for this certificate.
Receive approval of employment by a West Virginia public school system
Complete the substitute renewal training approved by the county or through the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) eLearning platform (WVLearns)
Be physically, mentally, and emotionally qualified
Be employed in the West Virginia public school system and be recommended by your county Superintendent
Training Requirements
You must meet one of the following options:
Complete 12 clock hours of substitute teacher renewal training approved by the employing county or through WVDE's eLearning platform (WVLearns)
Complete (6) semester hours of coursework related to the public school program on an official transcript
Have one of the following:
An expired West Virginia Professional Certificate
A valid/expired Out-of-State Professional Teaching, Student Support, or Administrative Certificate that has been expired less than five (5) years
Please note: Training or coursework must be completed after the last effective date of your permit and within five (5) years of applying for renewal.
