Staff members in the Office of Data Management support school districts, schools, and other stakeholders in using our education data collection and reporting tools, understanding educational programs and progress, planning for effective use of resources, and ensuring the privacy and security of student information.
This work falls into three functional areas:
Data Governance and Reporting
Maintaining and updating statewide data standards for data entered in WVEIS
Developing and supporting online reporting tools and systems
Developing and delivering federal and state-required reporting
Creating ad hoc reports in response to requests for information
Research, Evaluation, and Analysis
Planning, implementing, and reporting the results of evaluation and research projects for key initiatives
Collaborating with external researchers on projects of benefit to West Virginia educators and students
Assisting WVDE colleagues and other stakeholders in interpreting and understanding educational outcomes
Support and Compliance
Supporting stakeholders in the use of data and reporting tools
Management of the WVDE data privacy program, including providing training and guidance to stakeholders on privacy-related issues and processing stakeholder privacy concerns and complaints
Reviewing and consulting on WVDE contracts and agreements that may include work with student or staff data
Assisting districts to maximize federal E-rate funding in conjunction with Tools for Schools purchases
