Shepherdstown, W.Va. – The West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) congratulates the two teams that advanced out of the 2024 Academic Showdown (Showdown) regional competition today at Shepherd University in Jefferson County. Spring Mills High School Team 1 (Berkeley County) earned first place, and Spring Mills High School Team 2 placed second. Both will compete in the finale on April 23, 2024, at the West Virginia Culture Center in Charleston.
Today’s event was the last regional of the 2024 Showdown season and was held after being postponed twice due to inclement weather. Participating teams included:
- Berkeley Springs High School (Morgan County) Teams 1 and 2
- Frankfort High School (Mineral County) Teams 1 and 2
- Hampshire High School (Hampshire County) Teams 1 and 2
- Musselman High School (Berkeley County)
- Petersburg High School (Grant County)
- Spring Mills High School (Berkeley County) Teams 1 and 2
The Showdown is the state’s premier head-to-head competition testing students’ knowledge in subject areas including math, history, sports, fine arts and more.
