Walter Saunders Biography
Walter Saunders holds an undergraduate degree in Mathematics Education from West Liberty University and a graduate degree in Educational Leadership from West Virginia University. After serving in the United States Air Force, Saunders began his career in education. Following ten years in the classroom, he transitioned into educational administration, serving as an assistant principal, principal, and ultimately as the Director of Federal Programs and Assessment for Ohio County Schools—a role he has held for the past decade.
In this capacity, Saunders has served as President of the Board of Directors for the Ohio County Schools Foundation, overseeing hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarship funding for students and donations from invested community partners. He has also acted as a facilitator for awards from the Stifel Foundation, overseeing the distribution of more than $1 million throughout the last decade directly to Ohio County’s high-achieving students.
A graduate of Leadership Wheeling and a member of the Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce and the West Virginia Association of School Administrators, Saunders remains deeply engaged in his community. Saunders resides in Wheeling, West Virginia, with his wife, Stephanie, and is the proud father of six adult children.
