Greenbrier County Schools Superintendent Jeff Bryant embraces the amazing support and selfless “WE vs ME” attitude of the community every day.
“This attribute of the knowledge that success is only achieved through hard work combined with effective instructional strategies will result in success is what drive me to continue to be involved in public education and proud to be a member of the Greenbrier County community.”
Superintendent Bryant accepted his current position in 2016 following his tenure as Principal of Greenbrier East High School for fourteen years. He believes that all students deserve to have a community of adults who sincerely care and love them regardless of their life journey. Oftentimes it is the teachers and mentors that serve that role and provide students with the coping and decision making skills required to successfully navigate life.
“Greenbrier County citizens have the wisdom and love to understand the importance of our children and youth as not only the energy and inspiration that they provide, but the fact that they are our future and sustainability.”
Even as a high school student, Bryant knew he wanted to become a teacher. The importance of service to others was a mission he saw even greater than himself. He believes an educator must commit 100% of themselves in order to provide students with the support, confidence, self-esteem, empathy, work ethic and skills to help them walk the path of success throughout their lives.
Bryant grew up in Salem, Virginia where he was actively involved in music and athletics in school and church. He attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts and took a position as Director of Jazz Studies at Radford University in Radford, Virginia. In the summer of 1980, Bryant accepted a position as Director of Bands at Greenbrier East High School and served for 16 years. He then became the assistant principal of the school before eventually accepting the position as principal.
Bryant has been married to his wife Teresa for 40 years, and together they share two sons, Nathaniel and Carrington, and a four year old grandson Scout.
