Part of our "Love My WV School" campaign includes highlighting academic achievement, student success, teacher accomplishments, and more.
Balanced Scorecard Proficiency
West Virginia schools and districts are continuing to show improvements according to the 2024-2025 West Virginia Balanced Scorecard results. We recently celebrated two schools in West Virginia—West Teays Elementary in Putnam County and Mount Nebo Elementary in Nicholas County—for outstanding performance on the 2025 Balanced Scorecard.
Each public school and district receives a scorecard that measures progress across multiple indicators, including academic achievement, academic progress, and student success indicators such as chronic absenteeism and post-secondary outcomes. The Balanced Scorecard provides annual updates to families, communities and stakeholders on district and school performance.
On the 2025 scorecard, both West Teays Elementary and Mount Nebo Elementary exceeded standards for both academic progress and academic achievement in English language arts and mathematics. We are proud of the hard work the students, faculty, and staff have put in to achieve this success.
Milken Educator Award
Recently, the Milken Family Foundation visited Mullens Elementary in Wyoming County for a surprise announcement. West Virginia's 2025 Milken Educator is Brooke Bailey, a dedicated educator who personifies nurturing leadership in her role as a third and fourth grade math teacher. Her instructional approach has proven highly effective in increasing students’ math proficiency and meeting growth goals. Learn more about Brooke, view photos, and see the moment she was named a Milken Educator.
The Milken Educator Award is often referred to as the "Oscars of Teaching," and teachers who receive the award also receive a $25,000 cash prize and are added to a national network of exemplary educators.
