Devon Tennant is a West Virginia finalist in the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP). He is a senior at Magnolia High School and plans to attend Bethany College to study Political Science. Additionally, Tennant plans to attend law school to pursue a Juris Doctor.
Tennant applied for the USSYP due to his strong desire for public service, with garnered inspiration from West Virginia Delegates Dave Pethtel and Lisa Zukoff. Presently, Tennant holds the following leadership roles:
- President, Class of 2023
- Student Council President (2022-23)
- National Technical Honors Society Chapter President (2022-23)
- National Honor Society Chapter President (2022-23)
- Councilman, West Virginia Student Success Leadership Council (2021-23)
- Chairman, Magnolia Student Activities Committee (2022-23)
All finalists were asked why they should be chosen to represent West Virginia.
“If chosen, I could bring good ideas to conversations. I would meet current and future political leaders, making possible lifelong friendships,” said Tennant. “This opportunity could give me more ideas to service my community and is a good learning opportunity for someone planning to serve in the West Virginia legislature. My life’s ambition is to serve the great people of West Virginia in their government.
Tennant enjoys reading and attending social events involving politics. He also enjoys community service in his role as a New Martinsville City Youth Councilman.
