The West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE), in preparation for the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine, will send a survey to county superintendents this week to gauge the level of interest in receiving the vaccine from teachers and staff members. In accordance with the state’s COVID-19 Vaccine Plan, teachers and staff are included in Phase 1-D. Vaccines will be prioritized to teachers and staff age 50 and above first.
The information obtained from the survey will assist in determining how many vaccines are needed per district. While specific dates have not been finalized, the WVDE is working with the National Guard to be prepared for distribution as soon as vaccines are allocated for Phase 1-D. The vaccine will allow the school system to eventually return to normal operations and provide the critical level of services and instruction needed for the students and families of West Virginia.
