Logan, W.Va. – Two teams have advanced from the 2024 Academic Showdown (Showdown) regional competition today at the Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College Logan campus (SWVCTC). Wheeling Park High School Team 1, Ohio County, placed first, and Westside High School Team 1, Wyoming County, placed second, earning both teams a spot in the finale on April 23, 2024, at the West Virginia Culture Center in Charleston.
The following schools competed in the SWVCTC regional competition:
- Logan High School
- Shady Spring High School
- Scott High School
- Sherman High School
- Tug Valley High School
- Westside High School
- Wheeling Park High School
- Wyoming East High School
Due to growing interest in the Showdown, approximately 90 teams across the Mountain State registered to compete in the 2024 season. Students in grades 9-12 compete in head-to-head match ups by answering questions about math, history, fine arts, pop culture and more, showcasing their academic prowess and critical thinking skills.
The Academic Showdown is a partnership between the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE), the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History and West Virginia Public Broadcasting.
