Charleston, W.Va. – The West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) is pleased to recognize Shawn and Angela Ball/L&S Toyota, the Pack Family Foundation and the Wing 2 Wing Foundation for their contribution of more than $1,000,000 to the Communities In Schools (CIS) virtual pantries throughout West Virginia. Working with the WVDE and the United Way of Central West Virginia, the donation will help all public schools in the state address the extensive needs of students.

Watch the Keep the Ball Rolling initiative video on YouTube.

The Ball family’s support began in 2021 when it launched a comprehensive effort to support CIS schools. The program grew each year in depth and resources and will now expand significantly thanks to the addition of the Wing 2 Wing Foundation and the Pack Family Foundation. With the donation, each of the more than 611 public schools in the state will receive $1,500 to provide essential items like food, clothing, shoes, coats and hygiene products for students.

Reflecting on his upbringing in Boone County, Shawn Ball was motivated to alleviate the hardships that many families face in the state. The donations have not only brought relief to families but also reminded the public of the alarming increase in child abuse and neglect cases across the state. The challenges facing the children require more support than schools alone can provide, and these corporate and business partners are making an immediate impact by collaborating with educators, families and communities. Celebration events are planned across West Virginia, and they include:

  • 10 a.m. — Joan C. Edwards Playhouse, Huntington
