Fill out this form to renew a Provisional Alternative Teaching Certificate if you are employed by a county and enrolled in the county’s alternative certification program.
The Form 20PR application is for applicants who hold a Provisional Alternative Teaching Certificate and are enrolled in a county-based alternative certification program and have met program requirements to renew a Provisional Alternative Teaching Certificate for one year. You may renew your Provisional Teaching Certificate no more than twice for a total of three (3) years of validity.
Before You Apply
Before applying, ensure you have completed the following:
Hold a Provisional Alternative Teaching Certificate
Enrolled in county-based alternative certification program
Have a satisfactory teacher evaluation during the previous validity period
Be a U.S. citizen or hold eligible documentation (see Policy 5202)
Be at least 18 years old
Be physically, mentally, and emotionally qualified
Have recommendation from the county Superintendent
Hold a bachelor’s degree with a qualifying GPA from an accredited college or university
Enrolled in a state-approved alternative program or pathway
Pass required West Virginia Board of Education exams for the requested certificate and endorsement area
Education Level
