Temporary Teaching Certificate for Program Completers
Summary of Requirements
The Temporary Teaching Certificate for Program Completers may be granted only one time to an individual who has completed an approved preparation program, has attempted the content Praxis two or more times without meeting the required cut score.
This certificate is valid for one (1) year. To apply, you must:
Be a U.S. citizen or hold eligible documentation (see Policy 5202)
Have good character
Be 18 years old
Have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
Have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.5
Have completed an approved preparation program, have attempted the content Praxis two or more times without meeting the required cut score
Be employed within the West Virginia public school system
Have official recommendation from the county superintendent
Please have your college or university email official transcripts to our office (cert.transcripts.wvde@k12.wv.us). Transcripts must be received from the college or university, and not the applicant.
Renewal
The renewed certificate is valid for one (1) year and is renewable up to two (2) times over three (3) years. To renew your certificate, you must:
Have a minimum 3.0 GPA for all required coursework
Obtain successful evaluations for each year taught under the Temporary Certificate within the West Virginia Educator Evaluation System with an earned performance rating of Emerging or above
Hold a Temporary Teaching Certificate for Program Completers
Be employed within the West Virginia public school system
Have official recommendation from the county superintendent
