Professional Administrative Certificate Renewal
Summary of Requirements
Form 4A allows you to renew your professional administrative certificate.
Full Requirements
Use the Professional Administrative Certificate Form (Form 4T) to:
- Request renewal of your administrative certificate
- Convert to a permanent administrative certificate
Review Policy 5202, Minimum Requirements for the Licensure of Professional/Paraprofessional Personnel and Advanced Salary Classifications, for information on the criteria for converting your certificate to a permanent certificate. If you are employed in a county school system, please contact your county certification officer for assistance with the renewal process.
Renewal applications cannot be submitted until after January 1 of the year the certificate expires, unless a candidate is applying for a permanent certificate while holding a five-year certificate, a master’s degree, and five years of full-time experience.
Candidate Requirements
If you are employed in a WV public school, Form 4A requires an official recommendation from the Superintendent. If you are not employed by a county school system, you must also submit Form 4B.
General Requirements
To apply, you must:
- Be a U.S. citizen or hold eligible documentation (see Policy 5202).
- Have recommendation from the county Superintendent.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be physically, mentally, and emotionally qualified.
- Hold, or have previously held, a West Virginia Administrative Certificate.
To be eligible to renew your certificate, you must:
- Have completed six (6) semester hours of eligible coursework or WVLearns courses, or
- Hold a master’s degree + 30 advanced salary classification, or
- Have reached the age of 60.
To obtain a permanent certificate, you must have a minimum of five (5) years educational experience, with a minimum of two years in the endorsement area. One year of experience must take place in West Virginia.
A minimum of 3.0 GPA is required for all semester hour coursework for renewal. To send official transcripts to our office, please have your college/university send them to cert.transcripts.wvde@k12.wv.us. Transcripts must be received from the institution and not the applicant.
