This license is valid for five (5) years. To apply, you must:
Be a U.S. Citizen or hold eligible documentation (see Policy 5202)
Have good character
Be at least 18 years old
Be physically, mentally, and emotionally qualified
Have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
Have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.5
Be employed within the West Virginia public school system
Receive the recommendation of the employing county superintendent, Educational Service Cooperative, Multi-County Vocational Center Director, West Virginia Schools of Diversion and Transition superintendent or the Office of Adult Education Director.
Renewal
To renew your license, you must:
Have completed adult (basic) education professional development activities as prescribed in the West Virginia Adult Education Instructor Handbook and approved by the licensing agency
Be employed within the West Virginia public school system
Meet one (1) of the following options:
Have proof of six (6) semester hours of college/university coursework reflecting a 3.0 GPA related to the public school program or related to basic skills content
Be at least 60 years old
Receive the recommendation of the employing county superintendent, Educational Service Cooperative, Multi-County Vocational Center Director, West Virginia Schools of Diversion and Transition superintendent or the Office of Adult Education Director.
