Division of External Operations

The Division of External Operations provides various supports such as professional development, special circumstance reviews and technical assistance to boards of education, central offices, and schools.  This division also houses charter school support and the school calendar.   

Responsibilities

• Measuring school and district performance
• Oversight of the West Virginia Accountability System
• Issuing an annual Approval Status and Accreditation Report
  • Informs state and local decision making to address the identified targets for growth and improvement.
• Management of test development, administration, scoring and reporting of results for the statewide comprehensive assessment program. This includes:
  • West Virginia General Summative Assessment for grades 3-8
  • The high school SAT School Day
  • The West Virginia Alternate Summative Assessment
  • The National Assessment of Educational Progress
  • Various international assessment administered by the National Center for Education Statistics
