Course 1: Instructional Planning
This course focuses on the planning process of an effective educator. Proper planning will help you assist students with achieving course objectives more successfully. In this course, you will learn about various teaching practices relating to course, unit, and daily planning. It is important for you to understand the varied backgrounds and requirements for students. Some students may have learning accommodations through an Individualized Education Plan.

Course 2: Engagement Strategies
This course outlines how to involve students in stimulating instruction. CTE teachers must use effective strategies to develop their students' critical thinking, problem-solving, academic and technical skills. You will learn more about cooperative learning and Webb's Depth of Knowledge. Additionally, you will learn how to embed academics and apply technology tools to the CTE classroom. Project-based learning is crucial in CTE, and you must understand how projects can focus on a unit of study, linking classroom learning to the workplace.

Course 3: Assessment and Feedback
This course focuses on assessment tools that provide feedback to help you gauge student progress. This introduces you to two types of assessment: summative and formative. Both assessments provide feedback that improves student motivation and measures their learning. You will also learn about recording assessment data and grades.

Course 4: Classroom Culture
This course covers positive classroom culture as it pertains to student learning and development. You will learn how the learning environment impacts student learning, behavior, and motivation. Plans using strategies to support student motivation, understand their mindset, and establish clear classroom rules and procedures are important to academic success. You will face classroom management situations and learn how teachers use levels of intervention to tackle undesirable conduct. Additionally, you will learn how to enhance student achievement through:
- Fostering positive connections with families
- Participating in CTE student organizations
- Collaborating with advisory committees

Course 5: Principles of West Virginia CTE
In this course, you will gain a deep understanding of West Virginia CTE standards. This includes imperative need for accountability, prevailing state and federal CTE mandates, and the crucial role of instruction leadership in a CTE setting. You will explore how to engage students in the Simulated Workplace. This program equips students to be responsible for their technical performance and classroom environment. You will also learn about work-based learning opportunities available to students and financing for advancing CTE.

Course 6: CTE Teacher Mentorship
The CTE Teacher Mentoring program helps new CTE teachers develop confidence in their teaching skills. Although you bring expertise to the classroom, you may need help transitioning to education. As a new CTE teacher, you will have a mentor for guidance and professional development on standards-based lesson planning, classroom management, assessments, and student engagement. Mentors also provide information about West Virginia CTE initiatives and expectations. You must complete the CTE Teacher Mentoring Program to get your teaching certificate.
