Michele L. Blatt is the 34th State Superintendent of Schools in West Virginia. In this role, she provides strategic leadership to ensure the effective implementation of the West Virginia Department of Education’s (WVDE) strategies and goals.
Superintendent Blatt has enjoyed a distinguished career in education with more than 30 years of experience as a teacher, principal, and supervisor. Since joining the WVDE full-time as a Leadership Development Coordinator in 2007, she has earned promotions through the roles of Executive Director of the Office of School Improvement, Chief Accountability Officer, Assistant Superintendent, and Deputy State Superintendent. Her professional focus has centered on turning around low-performing schools, supporting district leadership, and providing a variety of strategies, tools, and resources to meet the individual needs of students.
She has built relationships across the state having served as the liaison between the WVDE and state legislators, county superintendents, and leaders of various organizations and associations. Superintendent Blatt received the Civilian Award for Humanitarian Service from the Department of the Army for her role on the state’s Joint Interagency Taskforce which guided West Virginia through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Superintendent Blatt’s devotion to supporting every child’s well-being and success has been a guiding motivation throughout her career and is a priority in her professional, charitable, and personal pursuits.
