The West Virginia Schools of Diversion & Transition (WVSDT) is committed to providing benefits that matter to you at each stage of your employment. Retirement – Defined Benefit Pension PlanAll regular, full-time employees are required to participate in the Teachers’ Retirement System.  Employee contributes 6%, employer contributes 7.5%. For more information visit West Virginia Consolidated Public Retirement Board (wvretirement.com).
Health InsuranceHealth Insurance is available to all regular, full-time employees through the Public Employees Insurance Agency (PEIA).  Premium rates vary depending on income level, chosen plan and coverage for eligible dependents. For more information visit PEIA (wv.gov).
Basic Life InsuranceBasic Life Insurance in the amount of $10,000 is a free benefit to all regular, full-time employees. For more information visit PEIA (wv.gov).
Optional Life InsuranceThe coverage for full-time, regular employees and their eligible dependents can be purchased with varying premiums. The cost of premiums depends on whether the coverage is for employee only or eligible dependents. For more information visit PEIA (wv.gov).

Hospital Indemnity InsuranceThe coverage for full-time, regular employees and their eligible dependents can be purchased with varying premiums. Critical Illness InsuranceThe coverage for full-time, regular employees and their eligible dependents can be purchased with varying premiums. Long-term and Short-term Disability CoverageFull-time, regular employees can purchase disability coverage for extended personal illness or disability when other available leave has been exhausted. Flexible Spending AccountsThis program allows employees to set aside funds on a pre-tax basis for dependent and medical expenses. For more information visit Mountaineer Flexible Benefits (wv.gov).
Group Legal InsuranceFull-time, regular employees can purchase legal counsel assistance as a post-tax benefit. For more information visit Mountaineer Flexible Benefits (wv.gov).
WV Retirement PlusThis retirement savings plan allows participants to make pre-tax and/or Roth (after-tax) contributions towards retirement. For more information visit WV Retirement Plus (wvtreasury.com).
Tax Deferred Annuity 403(b)This retirement savings plan allows participants to make pre-tax contributions towards retirement.
Sick/Personal LeaveFull time, regular (220 day or 240 day) employees receive 13 days of sick leave and 5 days of personal leave during each school year.
Paid Holidays

Full time, regular employees are eligible for the following paid holidays:

  • New Years Day- Martin Luther King’s Birthday- Memorial Day
  • West Virginia Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Veteran’s Day
  • Christmas Day
  • Primary Election Day (when a statewide primary election is held)
  • General Election Day (when a statewide general election is held)
  • Any other dates proclaimed by the President or Governor as a holiday or special observance by people of the state
