Follow county guidelines for selecting School Service Personnel of the Year.
The nominating individual/organization will submit an application packet by the dates required to the county board of education.
County
A panel appointed by the county superintendent will decide the County School Service Personnel of the Year based on both state and county criteria.
The winner will submit his/her application to the West Virginia Department of Education between March 2, 2026 and 11:59 pm on May 11, 2026.
State
County nominees will apply online and upload the following to the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) between March 2, 2026 and 11:59 pm on May 11, 2026.
List of Examples of the Nominee’s Exemplary Performance
Provide specific examples of activities that demonstrate exemplary performance that promotes student learning (e.g. activities that create safe/healthy schools and/or positive relationships with parents, students, coworkers and community members).
A list of community service activities, membership of organizations or committees (e.g. local school improvement council), or any awards, recommendations or recognitions
Two letters of recommendation:
No more than two letters of recommendation will be reviewed.
One letter shall be from the nominee’s principal or immediate supervisor.
The second letter shall be from a colleague, administrator, teacher, parent, civic/community leader, or student.
The letters should be distinct in content and provide specific examples of the Nominee’s contributions to their school and/or district.
Note: Additional uploaded documents or pages beyond the requirements will not be considered.
A panel appointed by the State Superintendent of Schools will review the online application submissions.
Following a review of the applications of all county nominations, the state review panel will interview the selected finalists face-to-face. The name of the state selected finalist will be forwarded to the West Virginia Superintendent of Schools for consideration as the West Virginia Service Personnel of the Year.
All county nominees will be recognized at the annual awards event in September 2026. The West Virginia Service Personnel of the Year will be announced at that time.
