Charleston, W.Va. – Logan County students now have access to high-level careers in the utilities and energy sector through the Hope Pathways program. Starting next school year, students at Ralph R. Willis Career and Technical Education Center (RRW CTE) can earn industry certifications leading to careers after graduation. The effort is a partnership between the West Virginia Board of Education (WVBE), the Department of Education (WVDE), Hope Gas and Logan County Schools. Company representatives and state and congressional leaders joined school officials today in Logan County to make the announcement.

The Hope Pathways program is open to juniors and seniors, and it allows them to explore and prepare for careers close to home. Career Technical Education (CTE) courses, internships, and apprenticeships provide students with hands-on, real-world experiences and ensure they are prepared to enter the workforce with industry-recognized certifications.

Hope Gas understands the importance of creating opportunities in the field. By partnering with public schools, the company opens access to advanced training and work-based learning that helps students build skills directly applicable to high-demand jobs. This creates a clear pathway to employment upon graduation.

“At Hope Gas, we believe West Virginia’s future is so bright. The Hope Pathways program is opening doors to helping build that future for students and for generations to come,” said Hope Gas President and CEO Morgan O’Brien. “Hope Gas is proud to partner with the West Virginia Board of Education and Ralph R. Willis Career and Technical Center to train the next generation of West Virginia’s energy workforce. These students are preparing for a strong future with high-skill, family-sustaining job opportunities right here in West Virginia. The future is brighter knowing together we are building qualified graduates who will one day be an important part of the Hope Gas workforce.”

“There is a direct connection between robust educational opportunities and a thriving business landscape,” said WVBE President L. Paul Hardesty. “Our students are hard workers and represent generations of skilled workers in our state. With this opportunity, we are showing them that you can remain in our community, raise your families and benefit from a great career path. Our CTE centers will continue to support the needs and demands of industry and are eager to collaborate with our business partners in all corners of the state.”

“The partnership ensures that we not only inform students of opportunities in the various skilled employment sectors, but we also connect them to these pathways earlier,” said State Superintendent of Schools Michele L. Blatt. “The Hope Pathways program supports this important endeavor by equipping students with extensive preparation over two years. The impact of this public school and corporate partnership will be felt in our communities for years to come.”

With CTE awareness, exploration and engagement available at all grade levels, students have access to greater STEM, hands-on and workforce development opportunities throughout their public education journey. This increases their outlook whether they pursue education, employment or enlistment after graduation.
