Renewal of the Alternative Teaching Certificate

The Form 25R application is for applicants who hold an Alternative Teaching Certificate and are enrolled in a county-based alternative certification program and have met program requirements to renew an Alternative Teaching Certificate for one (1) year.  

Before You Apply

To renew an Alternative Teaching Certificate, the following requirements must be met:   

• Hold an Alternative Teaching Certificate   
• Be enrolled in county-based alternative certification program   
• Have a satisfactory teacher evaluation during the previous validity period 

Meet teaching certification requirements as contained in Policy 5202, Minimum Requirements for the Licensure of Professional/Paraprofessional Personnel and Advanced Salary Classifications,

General Requirements

To apply, you must:

• Be a U.S. citizen or hold eligible documentation (see WVBE Policy 5202)
• Be at least 18 years old
• Hold a valid Alternative Teaching Certificate
• Have made progress and have earned satisfactory evaluations in the approved program during the previous validity period
• Have a recommendation from the county Superintendent

Education Level

• Hold a bachelor’s degree with a qualifying GPA from an accredited college or university
