2025 Exemplary Practice School: Mullens Elementary School
About the School
Over the past three years, Mullens Elementary School has approached school improvement through data-driven strategies, collaboration, and reflection. This approach has enhanced academic performance and created a positive school culture. Students, teachers, and families work together to achieve shared goals.
To ensure efforts are aligned and targeted, the school:
Hosts weekly Professional Learning Communities (PLC) meetings
Hosts monthly leadership meetings
Hosts dedicated co-planning sessions allowing teachers to collaborate and set instructional goals
Weekly PLC meetings are hubs for teachers to review student data such as attendance, assessment results, and behavior. Teachers work together to discuss instructional alignment and refine instructional strategies. Local School Improvement Council (LSIC) meetings and input from the Communities In Schools liaison provide valuable insights into attendance patterns and other external factors that impact student success.
The school’s approach increases students’ self-motivation, attendance, and readiness for the next grade level. Students are more engaged in tracking their learning and attendance, which boosts their academic achievement and sense of responsibility.
