2025 Exemplary Practice School: White Hall Elementary
About the School
Beginning in the 2021-22 school year, Grade 2-4 teachers worked with their classes to create student data notebooks. These notebooks help students stay on track academically across various subjects. In the 2022-23 school year, these notebooks included Grade K-4 students.
Student-led conferences were introduced in the same school year. Students present their notebooks to their families to showcase their progress during these conferences every nine weeks. This practice encourages students to take responsibility for reviewing and tracking their data and progress. Fostering this responsibility creates student ownership over academic study and further improvement. The student conferences have also supported improved family engagement.
Another way White Hall Elementary empowers students to take ownership of their learning and their school is through Student Leadership Teams. Every nine weeks, four fourth-grade students are selected to join this team. These students learn leadership skills and model expected behaviors for their peers.
