Instructions

In addition to the online application, please be prepared to upload:

• A résumé  (no more than two pages);
• Professional Biography;
• One letter of recommendation from a colleague, administrator, or student (The letter should not exceed one page in length);
• Video (2-5 minutes) of you describing why you should be awarded principal of the year, as well as a teacher and student/parent explaining why you should receive this designation. Include YouTube link of your video with the viewing option set to public so reviewers can view. (Principals are responsible for taking the necessary precautions to protect student confidentiality and obtain parent consent.);
• Publicity Headshot Photo. Guidelines;

• Fill out the Acknowledgement Form.

The application window for the 2027 West Virginia Principal of the Year will open on March 2, 2026, and close at 11:59 p.m. on May 11, 2026. Superintendents are required to submit their nominees, and the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) will email the application directly to each county winner.
