A test blueprint is used to construct each exam within the West Virginia General Summative Assessment. These blueprints serve as a guide to ensure students are receiving a high-quality assessment aligned to the grade-level. The blueprints detail the cognitive complexity of items, as well as provide a numerical range for the number of questions that may appear for each standard. The blueprint is designed to maximize coverage of the content standards while providing valid and reliable information on student performance.

The West Virginia General Summative Assessment blueprints, provided on this page, maximize the standards exposure to students and ensures the assessments reflect classroom instruction. While the nature of a few standards does not lend themselves well to the online assessment process, the West Virginia Department of Education encourages districts to provide instruction on all grade-level standards.
