NBPTS Renewal (Maintenance of Certification)

National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) recognition is valid up to five (5) years as determined by the expiration date on the NBPTS certificate.

General Requirements

To apply, you must:

• Be a U.S. citizen or hold eligible documentation (see Policy 5202, Minimum Requirements for the Licensure of Professional/Paraprofessional Personnel and Advanced Salary Classifications)
• Have maintained certification from the NBPTS
• Hold a valid West Virginia Professional Certificate

Employment requirements for recognition vs. salary supplement differ

• Employment in a West Virginia public school system is required for the NBPTS state salary supplement.
• Employment in a West Virginia public school system is not required for recognition of the NBPTS certification.
