Certification Applications

Use Form 20A if you are applying for a West Virginia Teaching Certificate and attended a regionally accredited out-of-state college or university's

Use Form 20R if you are applying for a West Virginia Teaching Certificate and have a valid out-of-state Professional Teaching Certificate.

If you hold

If you attended an in-state college or university, this certificate allows you to work in West Virginia public schools as a school counselor, school nurse, school psychologist or social services and attendance director.

If you attended an out-of-state college or university, this certificate allows you to work in West Virginia public schools as a school counselor, school nurse, school psychologist or social services and attendance director.

If you hold a valid, out-of-state student support license, this certificate allows you to work in the West Virginia public school system as a school counselor, school nurse, school psychologist or social services and attendance director.

Teaching certificate for individuals who have completed Option 4: West Virginia Department of Education Alternative Certification Program.

Fill out Form 2A if you are applying for a short-term substitute teacher permit in a county with a critical shortage. 

Fill out Form 2AR if you are applying to renew your short-term substitute teacher permit in a county with a critical shortage. 

A Restricted Short-Term

Renew your Professional Student Support Certificate, or convert a certificate to a five-year or permanent certificate.

Add an endorsement to your Professional Certificate based on the completion of coursework at a regionally accredited college/university.

Use Form 8C if you want to add an endorsement to a valid West Virginia Professional Teaching Certificate by submitting passing scores on the West Virginia Board of Education-required content area test(s).

Add an endorsement to your Teaching, Student Support, or Administrative Certificate that is reflected on your renewable out of state Certificate.
