April is the Month of the Military Child when schools and the Department of Defense Education Activity (DODEA) honor the strength and resiliency of military kids with ‘Purple Up’ celebrations.
Purple is the appropriate color to recognize military children from all branches because it represents a combination of Army green, Marine Corps red, and blue from the Coast Guard, Air Force, and Navy.
In West Virginia, Common Ground Partners including the West Virginia Department of Education and the West Virginia National Guard’s Child and Youth Program encourage schools to celebrate Spirit Week from April 7-11, with April 11th being designated as “Purple Up” day.
