The 2026 Academic Showdown Region 5 competition was hosted by the West Virginia Department of Education at Concord University and featured a day of fierce matchups with Bluefield High School winning first place.

Jefferson High School (Jefferson County) placed first, and Spring Mills High School (Berkeley County) placed second during the 206 Academic Showdown regional competition at Shepherd University.

Morgantown High School placed first, and Weir High School placed second during the West Virginia University regional competition of the 2026 Academic Showdown.

Bridgeport High School placed first, and Fairmont Senior High School placed second during the 2026 Academic Showdown regional competition at Fairmont State University.

Huntington High School and Hurricane High School advanced to the Academic Showdown finale from the Marshall University competition.

The West Virginia Department of Education and the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission are pleased to host the fifth annual Academic Showdown.

Morgantown High School Team 2 from Monongalia County was named the 2025 Academic Showdown Grand Champion today during the season finale at the West Virginia Culture Center in Charleston. Bluefield High School from Mercer County was named the runner-up.

Westside High School Team 1 and Sherman Senior High School Team 1 advanced to the 2025 Academic Showdown finale from the Region 4 competition.

Bluefield High School Team 1 and Greenbrier East High School Team 1 advanced to the 2025 Academic Showdown finale from Concord University.

Both teams from Morgantown High School have advanced to the 2025 Academic Showdown finale from the Region 1 competition at West Virginia University.
