Apply for National Board Certification
National Board Certification is an advanced, voluntary teaching certificate that recognizes accomplished educators who meet the standards set by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS).
Partners and programs are key factors in successful support of candidates. Universities, non-profits, education associations, and school districts frequently support candidates through the certification process. A list of available providers will be posted soon!
West Virginia Incentives for National Board Certification
Recognition and Salary Supplement
Per W.Va. §18A-4-2a, educators that are awarded this certification and are employed in the area of their national board recognition, are eligible to receive a minimum of a $3,500 annual salary increase. Please see our Form 45 page to apply for initial recognition. Use Form 45R for maintenance of certification (MOC). Additional supplements may be applied by your employing county. Contact your county human resources office to determine eligibility.
NBPTS Fee Reimbursement
West Virginia will reimburse national board candidates throughout the process. Please see Form 37 for additional information and allowable expenses. Individuals can apply for reimbursement after each of the following steps in the process are completed.
