Remediation In Adobe Acrobat

When accessibility issues cannot be addressed in the source document — or when you are working with a PDF that has no editable source — Adobe Acrobat Pro provides the tools to find and fix those issues directly in the PDF. This page covers the most common remediation tasks in Acrobat, organized by the type of issue being addressed.

Remediation in Acrobat is always a secondary option. Where a source document exists, fixing the issue there and re-exporting will produce better results with less effort. See Authoring Accessible Content for guidance on preventing accessibility issues at the authoring stage.

If you are remediating an accessible PDF form, form-specific remediation steps — including field labels, tooltips, tab order, tag structure, checkbox and radio button setup, and known validator behavior — are covered on the Creating Accessible PDF Forms page rather than here. The steps on this page apply to all PDF documents; form-specific work requires additional steps beyond standard remediation.
