Wood County Schools Teacher Sara Klesel loves helping her students fall in love with mathematics.
“I became an educator because of my personal struggles in math,” Mrs. Klesel said. “I am passionate about helping students persevere and find success in this subject.”
A mathematics teacher at Parkersburg South High School, Mrs. Klesel has 15 years of teaching experience, ten of which are in her current position. She said she believes it is the teachers who make the education system so successful.
“They take the time to get to know their students and the needs of their students,” Mrs. Klesel said. “I love it when students have the ‘a-ha’ moment! It’s these shared experiences between me and my students that make it all worthwhile.”
Mrs. Klesel was recently named Wood County Schools 2022 Teacher of the Year. Wood County Schools received over 300 nominations for Teacher of the Year and chose Klesel after reviewing 62 educators for the honor. She has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in teaching, both from Marshall University.
Mrs. Klesel has been married for nine years to Patrick Klesel and they have two sons: Grey, age 7, and Baylor, age 5. When she’s not busy in the classroom, Mrs. Klesel enjoys spending time with family, traveling, hiking and running.
