The Office of Accountability monitors and implements the West Virginia System of Support and Accountability in accordance with WVBE Policy 2322. Services coordinated by the Office of Accountability are based on the West Virginia Standards for Effective Schools and support continuous improvement. The office supports schools and counties and encourages districts to become outcome-focused, innovative, and accountable learning organizations.
A variety of data, including the WV Balanced Scorecard and WV Accountability System (WVAS) Efficiency Standards, are monitored and analyzed to identify relevant school and district improvement priorities and build the capacity for county operational effectiveness. Additionally, the Office of Accountability annually recognizes schools and counties for student academic growth, school quality performance and growth through the WV Distinguished Schools Recognition Program, National Blue Ribbon Schools, WV Sustainable Schools, and National Green Ribbon Schools programs.
