Please see below for responses to some of the most commonly asked questions regarding the West Virginia Virtual School.

All West Virginia Virtual School (WVVS) courses are available on the West Virginia Learns website. Courses may be accessed at https://wvlearns.k12.wv.us using your school issued email credentials. If you have a problem with your email or password, please contact your school. Courses offered through the WVVS will not appear on local school platforms such as Schoology, Canvas, Google Classroom, etc.

All course changes should go through your local school. The school will complete an Enrollment Modification Form to remove a duplicate class or register a student for a new course. If you have a duplicate course, please continue to work in one of the courses and specify to your school which specific course (2020-21 Algebra 1 Part 1 – Smith) should be deleted.

No, students do not have to submit pictures and videos of themselves. Contact your online teacher via e-mail to be provided an alternate assignment.

Printing is not required in any virtual course. There are a variety of digital tools available in Microsoft Office365 which allow students to type directly onto documents and worksheets. Students can write on paper, take a photo, and upload assignments as well. Assignments can also be completed in non-digital formats. Please check with your online teacher for recommendations on the best way to demonstrate understanding of the content.

All courses have been assigned a teacher. You may see your teacher’s contact information in the Teacher Information section of the home page as well as in the class list found under the My Tools icon.

Each county/school has assigned someone locally to be your facilitator. You will see the name and email of the facilitator listed in the class list under My Tools. If you do not see the name of a facilitator in the class list, please contact your school.

This will vary from school to school. The midterm grade is typically the “9 week grade” in a face-to-face class while the final date is the last day of the semester at your school.

Instructions for the pacing guide can be found in the orientation of the course. If you have questions about the assignment, please email your online teacher.

It is recommended that middle school students spend between 90 and 150 minutes per day on virtual learning. For high school students, it is recommended that students spend between 120 and 180 minutes per day on virtual learning. It is very important that your online teacher can identify which questions you attempting to answer. If you are unsure of the best way to do this, please check with your online teacher.

The facilitator is a liaison between the virtual school and the brick and mortar school/student. The facilitator will provide support to the teacher, student and families to ensure a smooth and successful online learning experience. Such support could include technology concerns regarding school issued devices, IEP modifications, attendance issues, etc.

If you have questions regarding course content, exams, assignment resubmissions, exam retakes, grades, completing an assignment, please contact your online teacher.

Teachers are required to respond to emails within 24 hours and grade assignments within 72 hours at the latest.

Teachers will meet monthly with students seeking NCAA eligibility for high school credit bearing courses in English, math, science, social studies and world languages. Other live meetings will be scheduled as deemed necessary for instructional purposes by the online teacher.

AP students will take AP exams in May at their home schools. AP coordinators at each student’s school must enter the student as an exam only student. This will enable the student to take the AP exam. Students should contact AP coordinators at their home schools to ensure they are entered as exam only students.

Students can log in to the course 24/7 and share progress. Guardian accounts are also available.

If you do not have Internet access, please contact your school directly for information on Wifi access in your local community. Additionally, you may refer to the Kids Connect Initiative for free Wifi locations across West Virginia.

West Virginia Virtual School works with counties throughout the State of West Virginia. Each county has a different calendar schedule; therefore, due dates are not set on individual assignments. Please check your pacing guide to stay on track to complete all assignments by the end of your school grading period.

All coursework is expected to be completed. The zero (0) will be replaced as the student submits completed assignments so the students know exactly where they stand in the course and will not be surprised with 0s at the end of the grading period for incomplete work. The final grade will increase as work is completed.
