CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Board of Education (WVBE) and West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) are pleased to welcome Dr. Arthur “Stan” Maynard to the State Board. Governor Jim Justice announced the appointment of the 40-year veteran of public and higher education earlier today.

Dr. Maynard has dedicated a significant part of his life to the service of others. As the Executive Director of the June Harless Center for Rural Educational Research at Marshall University, he leads efforts to provide educational opportunities and address the challenges to academic progress in rural West Virginia. With focus on issues affecting the whole child, his commitment extends beyond children to families, communities and educators.

“Dr. Maynard is a true public servant to the students, families and educators of our state for many years,” said WVBE President Miller L. Hall. “His dedication to addressing the needs of rural West Virginia exemplifies his heart for education.”

“The Department could not be more pleased to have Dr. Maynard join the Board,” said State Superintendent of Schools W. Clayton Burch. “We will rely on his experience and extensive knowledge especially as we continue to move education through these unprecedented times.”

Dr. Maynard will take the oath of office at the WVBE meeting on November 12, 2020.
