CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Board of Education (WVBE) will meet to conduct routine business on Thursday, September 12, 2019, at 9 a.m., in Capitol Building 6, Room 353 (Board Conference Room), 1900 Kanawha Boulevard, East, Charleston, West Virginia. The meeting agenda may be accessed at http://wvde.state.wv.us/minutes/current/AGENDA1.htm.
As part of a historic and continued effort to engage stakeholders, the WVBE has organized four panels of those closest to public education to take place at each of the next four WVBE meetings. Beginning this month, nine classroom teachers from across the state will participate in a panel during the meeting to provide valuable insights for WVBE members. Teachers will discuss standards, curriculum, State Board Policy 2510, teacher accountability and recommendations to strengthen public education. The WVBE will invite school principals to participate at its October meeting, district superintendents to participate in November and local board of education members to participate in December.
“We recognized the success of the West Virginia’s Voice listening tour and wanted to continue the notion of providing avenues for rich discussion among those closest to education,” said WVBE President David Perry. “The insights discussed will prove to be invaluable as we make policy decisions about how to best assist educators with their most important job of educating our students.”
The WVBE will also discuss the Balanced Scorecard results which outlines annual accountability ratings for each public school in the Mountain State as part of West Virginia’s School Accountability System. Each public school and district in the state are held accountable annually for multiple measures of student achievement.
A live audio stream of the meeting will be available by visiting http://wvde.state.wv.us/boe/live.html.
