The West Virginia Fit and Active Schools Face-Off is a school-team based student fitness competition open to all West Virginia public and non-public elementary and middle schools. Each school may enter one school-based team. A team must have eight students with no more than five students from the same gender. There will be two divisions: elementary and middle. The elementary division is open to teams of students in grades three through five. The middle school division is open to teams of students in grades six through eight or five through eight in middle schools containing a fifth grade. Physical education teachers or classroom teachers are eligible to serve as the coach or sponsor for a school’s team or another individual appointed by the school administrator.

The Fit and  Active Schools Face-Off will utilize the fitness routine found in the Fitness Face-Off  video and can easily be accessed via Sway or WVDE YouTube Wellness on the Wednesday playlist. Using the Face-Off video for practice will ensure teams have adequate time to prepare and know exactly what fitness routine is expected to be performed and judged at the competition. Students will be judged on Form, Intensity, Rhythm, Stamina and Transitions.

Six schools will be invited from the two divisions to compete in the in-person Face-Off.  School grants to support physical activity will be distributed to winning schools in each division as follows: $500 first place, $250 second place, $100 third place.

WV schools are encouraged to utilize the West Virginia Fit + Active Face Off video regardless of their decision to enter the competition to promote a healthy active lifestyle.
