The West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) and Common Ground Partnership announced that the inaugural West Virginia Military Signing Week would take place from April 25, 2022, to April 29, 2022. Leading up to this week, West Virginia schools were provided guidance from the WVDE and encouraged to locally plan events designed to celebrate students who are attending high school and make a special commitment to serve and defend the public as a member of the United States Armed Forces. At a time when the military is involved in missions ranging from combatting COVID 19, to conducting search and rescue activities during floods, to national security duties and so much more; this event provides communities with an excellent way to show their support for the aspirations of these students. Students who commit to service in the military use all the skills and knowledge they’ve acquired throughout their time learning in West Virginia schools for advancement into a new and exciting phase of their lives as citizens and soldiers, protecting the public’s interests.

Schools invited parents, community leaders, current and retired veterans to participate in these activities (in accordance with county protocols) to honor those who pursue enlistment as one of the West Virginia Board of Education’s three E’s for career readiness.

Watch the “Keeping ConnectEd” video for a glimpse of these activities.

West Virginia administrators and school staff may share media and photos from events with the WVDE at #CommonGroundWV. Please follow state and local guidelines for sharing event media.
