Fourth Annual Event: April 7, 2025 – April 11, 2025

West Virginia schools are encouraged to participate in Military Signing Week by locally holding events which recognize students who make a special commitment to serve and defend the public as a member of the United States Armed Forces.

Schools may choose to hold a military signing event during the officially recognized week, on a date which is most convenient on their calendar or as part of another career signing event. To become included as a part of this initiative, school staff may register an event. School registrations allow the partnership to offer event details on this page.

Registered public schools may receive informational support, access to event planning templates and a celebratory video for use at the event from the WVDE. Charter schools and accredited private schools are also welcome to register their events.

The military is called to meet a wide variety of missions ranging from combatting COVID 19, to conducting search and rescue activities during floods, providing for the nation’s security and so much more. This annual event provides communities with an excellent way to show their support and appreciation for the aspirations of these students. Students who commit to service in the military use all the skills and knowledge they have acquired throughout their time learning in West Virginia schools for advancement into a new and exciting phase of their lives as citizens and soldiers, protecting the public’s interests. These events provide a learning experience for students about career opportunities and support students in meeting the WVBE’s career readiness goals, which include the three E’s of education, employment and enlistment upon high school graduation.

If you would like more information about these events or require guidance in planning, please contact Robert Mellace.

*Please note that while those participating in Military Signing Week and related events may sign a career commitment document which is not legally binding, actual military enlistments take place either before or after the event has taken place.
